Door access isn’t the flashiest part of running a coworking space.
But it is one of the most important.
Because access is trust. It’s the difference between someone feeling welcome or out of place. It’s the first touchpoint in a member's daily routine and the silent backbone of your space's security. When it works, it fades into the background. When it doesn’t, it causes friction, confusion, and unnecessary support tickets.
Coworking operators are building communities, managing logistics, solving tech issues, onboarding new members, and still trying to carve out time to grow your business. Door access should support all of that—not get in the way.
That’s why I’m incredibly excited to announce our new integration with Unifi Access Control.
This collaboration is built specifically for the real-world needs of modern coworking spaces. It combines Unifi’s robust access control hardware with Coworks’ intuitive, community-first software experience.
The result?
A seamless, secure, and smart access system that adapts to the way your space actually runs.
Flexibility that fits your space
We designed this integration around one core idea: access should reflect how people use your space.
Some members are with you every day, around the clock. Others might pop in once a week for a few hours. You might host workshops, popups, events, or coworking days that bring in brand-new faces for just a few hours. And each of those audiences deserves a different access experience.
With Coworks and Unifi working together, you can now fine-tune door permissions to match the variety and velocity of people coming through your space.
Let’s say someone signs up for a public hot desk plan online. As soon as they join, Coworks can automatically add them to a door group inside Unifi. If they book a day pass, they’ll get temporary access just for the hours they need. If they reserve a meeting room, they’ll only be able to unlock the doors relevant to that space—and only during their booking window.
It’s a level of control that’s powerful on the backend, but totally invisible to your members.
Features that make it all work
Here’s a closer look at what this integration makes possible:
- Assign door groups to member plans directly through Coworks, syncing with Unifi so members get access automatically.
- Enable self-signup plans to trigger door group assignments, eliminating manual steps in your onboarding flow.
- Issue PIN codes for members and guests without requiring any additional apps.
- Let members unlock doors from the Coworks app—one less thing for them to download or figure out.
- Offer temporary access tied to day passes or external bookings.
- Restrict access by room so that meeting rooms or private offices stay secure and usage stays accountable.
- Trigger automatic check-ins when doors are unlocked, giving you better visibility into who’s actually on-site.
- And the real benefit: Magic Link access for guests or one-time users. They get an email with a secure link. One tap, and they can unlock the doors they need—without downloading Unifi or Coworks.
Built with your feedback
This isn’t a feature we dreamed up in a conference room. It came directly from conversations with operators like you.
You told us you needed more automation. That onboarding new members shouldn’t mean juggling five different systems. That guests shouldn’t be stuck at the front door waiting for help. That managing access across multiple locations should feel consistent and scalable.
We heard you. And this integration is our response.
It’s also just the beginning.
We’re already exploring how to make this smarter, faster, and even more personalized in future updates. Imagine automatic access for recurring events. Or member badges that evolve with plan upgrades. Or deeper analytics that show how your space is actually being used.
But today, we’re excited to deliver a solution that meets the needs you already have—secure access that works on your terms.
If you're already using Coworks, our team can help you get Unifi up and running fast. And if you're still exploring coworking software that truly understands how flexible spaces operate, we’d love to show you around.
